Experimental Design in Carpet Drier Process with Infrared Machine

Carpet drying process with the Infrared drier is an important process to produce hand-hook and machine-hook carpets. In this study, a drying carpet period depends on each worker s experience, normally around 2-3 hours. The control parameters of Infrared drier consist of a speed of the infrared machine and a distance from the infrared bulb to carpet. Both parameters are in controlled and the ranges are 8 - 11 centimeter and 1.58 - 2.08 sec/ centimeter, consequently. Beyond that, there are two covariate factors or concomitance variables which were not controlled such as the relative humidity and the carpet length. Therefore, the Design of experiment was an analysis of covariance. The results found that the “distance, the “speed” and the “length” were significant (p<0.05), whereas the “RH” was not significant (p>0.05). The suitable setup for Infrared Drier is 1.58 sec/ centimeter for speed and 8 cm. for distance. With a carpet of 6 meter long, drying time for a typical human work is approximately 180 minutes while for computerized machine is 74.43 minuets.
